In 2005 Claus submitted this photograph to the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. Out of 6000 plus images submitted by over 400 photographers
from 21 countries, this breathtaking image was selected as the overall winner. It was taken on his photo trip to the Kalahari
in March on an early morning drive down a dry riverbed.
Shortly before sunrise, he saw the two wildebeest engaged in a sparing match.
Knowing the sun would rise just right behind them, he stopped and waited for the perfect light, anticipating a silhouette shot. The formation of dust perfectly reflected the golden rays of first sunlight.
A few minutes later, the two rivals went their own way.
